MAN F/W 10/11
What you’re about to see is not a mere fashion show, a play-by-play soccer match, or a documentary on Gothic novel phenomena.
As a theatrical piece based on classic rules and produced using the most modern means, it is this and so much more.
Enjoy the show.
Everything begins on a soccer field in a stadium, that popular yet magical place bursting with uncontainable energy, where hate is expressed through taunting cheers and love is conveyed through huge banners. It’s a place where you end up hugging a complete stranger sitting beside you if your team scores a goal.
This is the stage of the player, that vigorous modern hero. You love him or hate him, and you cheer him on or insult him when necessary.
A relationship is established between fan and player even off the field, where the former becomes less aggressive and the latter is more elegant and vaguely sexy.
Then night falls, and twelve strikes of the clock take the place of the whistle starting the game.
The penalty spot turns into the entrance of a dark castle and the ball, a symbol of the game, turns into a full moon! Mysterious star illuminating the night, it affects the tides, planting and harvests, it triggers hysteria in fragile women and awakens witches and werewolves, and it turns men into vampires.
The transformation is spectacular and scary: fantasy becomes reality.
The cover magazine smile now has fangs, and the enviable tan is replaced by the sinister allure of a moonlike pallor. Fans’ cheers turn into wild howling.
Techno-sports materials make way for glossy leather, smooth velvet, and lace.
A hunger for victory transforms into a thirst for blood.
And yet, they are the same men, the same competitive and voracious beings willing to do anything to find their soul or win a championship... until the break of dawn.
If you go to another soccer match today, take a good look at the person sitting beside you: if he’s a bit pale and his upper lip is curled into a snarl, he might be a fan of the opposite team.
